WHAT is happening to my body?? Can't lose weight all of a sudden!

I just turned 46 in June, and it seemed like, right around my birthday, my weight shot up 10 pounds. I CANNOT GET IT BACK DOWN. I've been cutting down on what I eat, and..it's not as if I've been eating junk food the last few years. I eat relatively healthily. I had stopped going to the gym for about a month, but now I'm back working out 45 minutes every other day like I was before. My weight is hovering around 138-142, and I hate it.

Before I turned 46, my weight fluctuated between 128 and 132. When I wasn't eating much, and exercising more, it was at 128. This, to me, is my ideal weight. I feel like I looked good back then and felt light. I know that's not particularly skinny, but I'm curvy.

In my 20s and 30s, I was stick skinny.. I weighed 105 (I'm 5'1" tall).  When I turned 40, I wasn't doing anything differently, but my metabolism changed drastically, and all these curves popped out. I LIKE the curves, don't get me wrong, and they've served me well for the last 5 years. I've made my living as a pin-up model because of them. But now it's getting ridiculous, that I weigh this much without having really done anything differently. It's not like I'm sitting around eating pies all day.

I can only guess that my metabolism must be changing AGAIN, maybe because I'm pre-menipausal or something?? I don't know what to do. I'm sticking to 1200 calories a day, doing this WebMD weight loss tool, and I am not losing ANY weight.

Has this happened to anyone else? Help!

1200 calories a day is not much at all. Maybe you are eating too little and your body is "storing" fat. I've heard of that happening.

If you are working out quite a bit and limiting your calories, your body will actually hang on to the weight because it thinks its not going to get enough food to do its basic functions every day.  Here is a great article about weight loss as you get older and some possible culprits also:

The site also has some other great articles on the right hand column.
