Woa! Is anyone following the wreck of the cruise ship? I can't stop watching and reading about it! I've been on several cruises and I can't begin to imagine what if..YIKES! Have you ever been on a cruise? Did you even think about what you'd do if the ship wrecked?

I know I am probably obsessing because I have been on a few cruises but I can't get over what those people went through. And then some were stranded in a foreign country with no money or clothing. I can't imagine how I'd react!

I know EXACTLY what you mean. And what if it had been a holiday, the embassy or consulate was closed (they keep banker's hours at the visa/passport departments), and you had no way to get your passport replaced and..

Ugg. I hadn't even thought of what if it were Christmas or something and everything was shut down.

I guess the Embassy has some sort of way to quickly get you another passport or get you back into your own country. I hope I never have to find out. lol

Actually, they don't, if my experience is anything...

1). We had freinds with visas, one of whose had expired and it was Easter Weekend in Mexico and they had to stay over the entire weekend (he with the expired card, wife and year-old baby who had valid visas) becasue the consul was away fo rthe holiday adn teh entire office was closed! It didn't help that he was a) Chilean, not on the most favored list at the time and b) somewhat radical and vocal about his views of the US... and he KNEW his visa was a one-entrance and left the country anyway!

2) When my purse was stolen in London, it was a holiday (July 4) week so the visa/passport office was closed and I had to wait a week before I could get a replacement. And that replacement was necessary so I could get a replacement Resident Alien card (AKA Green Card, UK style)...

3) We had some Indian freinds (naturalized US Citizens)
