The OMG Diet: Pros & Cons

I recently wrote about the hCG Diet, one of many fad diets that I wish would disappear. Now, to add to the ever-growing list of controversial diets, is Six Weeks To OMG: Get Skinnier Than All Your Friends.
When the book, by the same name, came out right before summer, my immediate response was: "Oh my god—are you kidding me?" We can assume, of course, that the British author Venice Fulton (a pseudonym for Paul Kannah) meant to imply: "Oh my god—how well this works!"
Let me explain why I am opposed to this diet......

I am currently on the HCG Diet..BUT..there are different forms of HCG diets!!
My GYN got me in touch with a naturopathic doctor and I am under his care. None of the things mentioned on that website link are of my plan. I researched the diet a lot before my first meeting with the naturopathic doctor. The plans are similar, but not the same. You can buy HCG off of the store shelves, but it is not recommended that you do that as some are watered down, some are mixed with other ingredients and some are just fake. I get mine only through a prescription from my doctor and bought at a pharmacy. My HCG is a hormone and nothing else and it has no side effects at all. Because some HCG is not pure and also because this diet is controversial, I probably wouldn't have gone on it if it were not for the recommendation from my GYN and her leading me to my naturopathic doctor. I cannot recommend that anyone go on this diet any other way than how I am doing it.
I talk to my doctor once a week and he has tweaked my plan many times according to what is going on with my week and my blood testing. I'm in week 18 of the plan and will be blood tested again for the third time..that's a full panel of blood testing..the beginning of October. My blood test results are *fantastic*!!! As a result, I am now off of my cholesterol and blood pressure medications, my cholesterol is under 100, my BP is always perfect, I've lost 60 pounds and have 20 more to go and I feel *fantastic*!! Oh, and also, because I am dairy and grains free (gluten free) on this plan, all of my arthritis pain is totally gone!!
When I reach goal, I will be off of HCG and my doctor will slowly take me through six weeks of gradually getting into maintenance to reach a setpoint, he calls it "maintenance stabilization" so that I won't go crazy eating the wrong foods again and gain it all back. I'm good at maintaining anyway, though, so don't anticipate a problem with that.
So, that's my take on the HCG Diet.
Donna, I am absolutely thrilled for you! You certainly take ownership of your own health and take advantage of excellent resources.
I'm rooting for you and eager to hear more!

Thanks Barb!! Husband and I are on a weeks vacation now and eating is a challenge!! I brought my bathroom scale with me, though...not kidding, I really did...LOL!!...and am doing okay with small portions. There is no way I can count calories now! I'll be right back on my usual plan when we get back home again and heading towards goal.
Great way to adapt! Where are you vacationing?
