Diagnosed with Lupus
Thu, 11-21-2013 - 11:27pm

I have recently been diagnosed as having Lupus. What I thought was dry facial skin and roscea was wrong. My best friend had Lupus years ago (she has since passed away) and I watched her struggle with that awful disease. I don't know what I may have to go through, but I won't give in to it whatever might happen. We have one life and we should always take each day as one day at a time. I am finding myself becoming tired more easily (which I thought was due to age) and I had the aches and pains everywhere. I'm on prednisone at present, but only for another month. I can't stay on it long term. The prednisone has made my appetite increase and has also caused me to gain weight. I suffered with the pain for almost 6 weeks before the diagnosis and it was horrible. With the steroid, I'm pain free. Hopefully, I'll be able to take something for the pain after I stop the prednisone.

My mother is losing her grip on reality and merging into a fantasy world. Other than that, she's about the same and her overall healthis good.

I hope to see you more often here on the board. Please do check in and let us know how you all are doing.

Hi Geri,

I am sorry for your diagnosis but at least now you know why you were feeling the way you were. I am also hopeful that there is more treatment for Lupus now than when your friend had it. I have a friend who has it and she has had it for many years. She is still working and doing well. So there is hope.

I haven't been around as much as ususal because of massive stresses that I have been going through lately but they seem to be easing now. Plus I went on vacation to the Holy Land. Had a wonderful time and I am now trying to catch up. I will check in again. I do care about what is happening with you and your mom.

A gentle hug,

Hi Geri, Lorie here aka ~nightangel67~...

So good to see a familiar face...

Finally got to see a Rheumatologist earlier this month.

Unfortunately I got Shingles...not fun and ended up giving my ds the Chickenpox.

My dad is not doing too good either, early stages of dementia, no longer able to live ALONE.

He is in a Retirement Home close to my sister.

He lost a leg also earlier this year...:(...

Lots going on here to.

I have just found out one of my friends in my Arthritis Support Group also has Lupus.

My heart goes out to you my friend.

I miss you very much.

Still CL on Heart Health but the Boards seem so very slow and all the changes have been hard.

I was sorry to read this. Just remember, every illness has various degrees. I pray yours is not severe. Take care of you.
