How do you think your computer skills rate to other people in your age group? How did you acquire them?

I took classes at the library for months to learn how basic computer skills. Almost everyone in my class was a senior citizen and I was probably the youngest in the class (I am almost 60).

I think I have good computer skills than most my age but not even comparable to the younger generation. I can turn a computer on, load a new program, create a file folder and add items to it, get on the internet and search, and visit a few social sites. If something goes wrong then I am stuck and usually have to get one of my kids to help.

I live in a building with 60 other seniors.  I'm 74 and I am the "go to" person when people have problems.  I don't worry any more about what I don't know Smile but what I do know has gotten me pretty far.>

When I was working I was the computer person in the office. I always said that we were in trouble! But I do know a fair amount about computers but there are huge gaps between my knowledge points! I now have a book that I write all the passwords down in because I keep forgetting them and they are different for different programs. I just fixed my computer tonight since I couldn't get on the internet for the past two days. Taht was pretty frustrating.

I know enough to get by. Most has been self-taught, usually by trial and error. As far as figuring something out about why my computer is doing this or that, I leave that up to my hubby. He's great with electronics, but a real nerd when it comes to working online. Wink
