Is anxiety a mental health issue?

I have just seen my new health insurance plan and I am really surprised with all the negative talk about what Obamacare is doing to health insurance because mine is going to cover mental health issues. I believe my husband suffers from anxiety and I am wondering if there is some official diagnosis about anxiety and if it can be treated.

Hi, yes, it absolutely is. It can be debilitating to some. :(

It's a diagnosis on it's own, that is, you can be diagnosed with/as having anxiety. Anxiety causes other issues, such as panic attacks.

HTH and good luck!!

My ds has Social Anxiety.

In the beginning he was diagnosed with GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder)...because of this he eventually was allowed to Home-School...

Still fighting for his Disability...:(...

Hope this helps a little bit.

It is taken seriously.

Yes, anxiety can be treated and it is considered a mental health issue depending on the diagnosis. All the best
