Do you feel that your Bipolar Disorder has led to weight problems or were you able to lose weight despite having Bipolar Disorder? I work with a woman who is severely overweight and she claims it is because she is Bipolar. She says the meds and her lack of ability to stay focused make it impossible for her to lose. She says there is nothing she can do about it. I'm not sure I believe that. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Hi Catthee,

I don't have personal experience with this but I have read that it isn't impossible for people suffering with mental illness to lose weight. It may take more time and effort but it can't work out. I found an article for you that you may find helpful (and might possibly be able to share with your friend): Mental Illness May Not Impede Healthy Weight Loss

Good luck and let us know how your friend is doing.
