According to iVillage Health, exercise could be an alternative to antidepressants. "Therapists have been saying it for years: Getting some exercise can relieve the symptoms of depression, such as persistent feelings of sadness, irritability, loss of interest in doing things you usually enjoy and insomnia or excessive sleeping.
