Do you consider yourself creative? According to Health Day News, creativity may be linked to mental illnesses such as depression. " A large new study adds to evidence linking creativity and mental illness. The findings also suggest that to safeguard the positive traits associated with mental illness, new approaches to treatment might be considered, the researchers said. The investigators looked at long-term data from nearly 1.2 million Swedish psychiatric patients and their relatives, and found that bipolar disorder was more common among people with artistic or scientific professions, such as dancers, photographers, authors and researchers." I'm not really what I would call a creative person. But I do know a lot of talented, creative individuals. And because of that, I can kind of see what they mean, especially when it comes to depression, and anxiety disorders. Most of the creative people I know identify themselves with their art; it's an intricate part of who and what they are. If, for some reason, they are not able to create, it can cause them to feel less than themselves and can eventually have some impact on their state of mind.

Not sure about the study but I am very creative as I used to decorate alot and had my own business and created events and I also was a singer and ions ago wrote music.. I also used to write short stories in  Highs School.. Many people tell me I am creative as my profession I went to school for actiivty and music therapist I always had to create things..and make things up..

I also love to cook different things and to me that is creative.

So i would say yes the study could be true...

I wonder if being more or less creative is different if you have major depression or if you have bipolar? I have major depression. I sapose I am different than the others because I am so so not creative (grin). My children often want me to draw a certain type of picture and I struggle to draw a dog or house. I would love to be creative. I think I remember from college something about creativity being linked to parts or areas of the brain. Ok, smile, I am not making sense. Interesting topic :) Heidi
