Lately when I look in the mirror I don't like the way I look. I often compare myself to others and think they are better than me.

stop looking in the mirror - you're comparing yourself to others superficially (looks-based) without having any idea what the other people are like on the inside. focus instead on DOING - do things that you enjoy (do you have any hobbies?) or volunteer or do something else that makes you feel good on the INSIDE.

aside from practicing good hygiene (making sure your teeth and hair are brushed) and looking presentable (wearing clean, ironed clothes), looks really don't matter. there is always someone whom you think looks "better" than you - and there will always be someone who thinks you look better than them. this is human nature, and if you can work at shifting your focus away from looks then you won't get caught up in the game.

Honey, you are not alone, especially when you are growing older.

Hi

I struggle with this every day and constantly compare myself to other people, I am now in therapy to try and stop this from happening because I need to stop it damaging me so much.

The most important thing I've learned so far is that I'm not a good judge of how people see me anyway. I project onto them all MY assumptions about how ugly, fat, old or unpleasant I am.

It's hard work, I won't lie. It's trying to break a pattern I've lived in for 33 years.

I really hope that you can find a way to get passed what you are going through at the moment. I have been given many tools and guides by my psychologist and if you'd like me to pass them on to you so you consider if they might work for you, just let me know.
