I was reading the large-print Reader Digest for April and ran across an article reprinted from RD U.K. as retold by John Dyson

i enjoy reading ridley's blogs, but sometimes i wonder if he generalizes a bit - his scope is so global, while most of us are worried about "local" things. other than that, his writings to me are like a breath of fresh air, and i have a hunch that we are more worried than we should be thanks to the mainstream media, who love to paint pictures of doom and gloom.

do you think that optimism/pessimism is inherent (are we born that way)? or is it something that can be learned?

I love the positive outlook, but am not sure I agree. As we accumulate more, the losses we face are also more monumental. And try telling someone who is living on the street that they are better off than their predecessor, I have a feeling they won't feel as positively as the blogger does.

:smileyhappy:Jessicia,

That is a great subject for discussion; have you used it before?

I'm an old eighty year old woman, and I say in some ways we are worse and the things we are worse for, will, in my opinion do us in.
