Pregnant while taking the pill

I have a good friend who has been absolutely obsessed with pregnancy and babies for quite a while now and suddenly she has turned up pregnant despite the fact she is on the pill and claims to have never forgotten. I don't believe it was as accidental as she claims. I think it is too suspicious. I don't get why she is lying to everyone about it. So my question is, what are the chances of someone getting pregnant while taking the pill?

I was on the pill when I got pregnant and she is a healthy 33 yr old :D

It happens.

My OB once told me in reality, it was closer to 80-85% effective because women are human too, taking it at the same time every single day, back up if you are sick of on antibiotics, etc. can all affect the pills effectiveness.  I got pregnant with my ODD while on the pill, only having had sex 1 time.  It can happen.  Even if it seems like a suspicious thing, I would try and  be as supportive as possible.

I have to agree with ladybookworm; support rather the focus on suspicions. No birth control method is 100% effective. People's bodies go through changes and the type of pill she was on may just not have been the right levels for her. It happens, the same as honeymoon babies. May be rare, but why worry about the "what if's" if your friend is happy and content?

Welcome to the board Jennadnearo.  While no one but your friend will know whether she did or did not take the pill properly it is important to know that even when used properly the pill is not 100% effective.  It is still possible to get pregnant even if a dose is never missed and doses are always taken at the exact time of day every day.  This is part of the reason that medical experts recommend using condoms as well.  Is your friend excited about her pregnancy?  If so it might be time to be supportive instead of suspicious.
