Long-lost period!!!!!

Hello, my name is Sabrina and I am 34 years old. I was diagnosed with endometriosis about 8 or 9 years ago, and I have been on Yasmin ever since to control the symptoms. I actually haven't had a period for many years...I can't even remember the last time I had one. I occasionally have very mild menstrual cramps at that time of the month but I haven't had a trace of menstrual blood for a long time. I thought that one reason was probably because I am obese...right now I have well over 200 pounds to lose, and I have gained most of this weight steadily over the last 7 years since my sister was killed by her boyfriend. That tragic event in my life contributed a lot to my weight gain, but I have struggled with my weight all my life. For the last week I have been on the Dr.Poon diet, which is a low carb, low fat diet, and I haven't had my first weigh-in yet but I am certain I have been losing weight because I feel so much better in just a week, and I can tell in my face I have lost some. So my body is changing a LOT right now....but one change I didn't anticipate was getting my period!!! I am completely baffled, I just discovered it about 20 minutes ago and I came straight here to post LOL! I haven't posted on these message boards in years! But I am curious if anyone might have some insight into why all of a sudden I am menstruating!!! My gynocologist said that hormones and obesity could play a part in why I haven't menstruated in so long but mostly it's because I'm on the Yasmin for so long. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but I'm willing to bet that the diet is changing more in my body than I realized!!! Any thoughts?

Sabrina, that's wonderful!! Keep up the great work! A lot of posters are frustrated as iVillage has gone through some changes. I've been here for over 10 years and have seen all the changes. I too miss it when it was very active. It was so much fun!

Thanks for the reply, Kristin. I guess I was used to the way these message boards used to be years ago when I used them, they were a LOT more active!! I might have been a little impatient as well because I was really excited about getting my period again, as strange as that sounds LOL!

It actually did come at the end of my off week with the pills, and it was a very light flow, so light that I didn't have to wear a pad or anything. But it was definately there!! It came on the day I posted, then it was gone after that one day, and then it came back again the following day, even lighter. Then it was gone. I'm curious if it is going to show up again on time this month! It is definitely promising to see the positive changes happening already in my body! I had my first weigh-in on Thursday and I lost 21 pounds in my first 2 weeks of the diet!!

Anyway, thaks for your words of encouragement and advice Laughing ~Sabrina

I apologize you for getting to your sooner. Things are very slow around many of the boards these days. I try to check in at least once a week but with 3 kiddos, sometimes I forget! I think it's good news your cycle has returned! I does show things are changing in your body. You've made some very positives changes. That first step is tough, good job!! Curious if the menstruation coincides with your off week from the pills or is it break through bleeding? Those could mean two different things. If it's break through bleeding and it gets heavy, you may want to check in with your doctor. Best wishes to you on your weight loss journey!!

I've gotta say I am disappointed I have not had anyone reply to my message. I used to come to these message boards frequently and usually got at least one or two replies! It's been almost a week and NOTHING? Wow, that's too bad.
