Uterine Fibroids?
Sat, 08-11-2012 - 12:08am

Has anyone here had an issue with uterine fibroids? I know mostly all women over 30 have at least some, but I'm dealing with a lot of complications.  One doc says "hysterectomy" but my regular GYN says, "Just wait it out until you hit menopause."  I'm 47 and a recent hormone test shocked me by showing I have the hormone level of a woman in her late 30s!!!  In other words, menopause is a long way off.  Uh oh.

Meanwhile, severe anemic, weakness, some pain sometimes, on and on.  Massive blood loss every 3 weeks, for 12 or so days. And we arent' even talking about my less than cheery personality!

Did you deal with this? Did you decide on the surgery? If yes, why and how did it go?  Are you glad you did it?

I think you need to ask yourself how much it affects your quality of life. From what you describe, it sounds fairly significant. There are a lot of pro's and con's to weight. I hope some posters who have dealt with it will come and tell their story. Have you searched through the archives?

Thanks for your input. I had my hormones checked and even though I'm 47, my doc said I have the hormone levels of a woman in her 30s!  He asked me if I wanted to have more kids!!!!  Horrifying thought!

Anyway, apparently I have a long time to wait until nature intervenes with this issue.  Meanwhile, I'm actively trying all kinds of alternative stuff - I'm doing Chinese medicine right now.  We'll see what happens.

Thanks for your input.
