Vaginal Cultures - what to expect?
| Mon, 11-29-2010 - 11:31pm |
Ok, so earlier today I had a routine check up at my gynecologist's office. During the pap smear (which she still does, even though I have had the vaccine) I experienced some bleeding from my cervix. It was the first pelvic exam I ever had that was a little bit painful and uncomfortable. Usually I have no problems.
My doc wants me to go for some vaginal cultures. I read online what the test is to identify the cause of the vaginitis, but no real explanation about the exam itself.
Can anyone tell me what to expect from the exam? Will it be just like any other pelvic exam? or more?
Any info will help, thanks!
Hi Jennifer!
I figured it would be just like an ordinary pelvic exam, thanks!
Here in Canada, annual pap smears & pelvic exams are covered by our Provincial Health Insurance, but additional laboratory tests like a vaginal culture, is not covered. I had the option to have the culture taken at my doctor's clinic, but that would have cost me $150 when I can book an appointment for the exam at women's pavilion of my community hospital for free.
