This is a difficult subject for me so I will just be blunt. How do you ask your husband to look into Viagra or Cialis especially since things are already strained because of the obvious need?

Hi Jayne, and welcome to the board.

I think you should start by encouraging your husband to go to the doctor for a checkup. You need to make sure there isn't another underlying medical condition before suggesting Viagra or Cialis, since ED can be an early symptom of heart, circulatory or prostate problems which may be revealed by a thorough physical exam.

Also, a wellness exam may include checking testosterone level; ask your doctor's office if it is routinely done and request it if it isn't. Low testosterone is common as men age, and supplementation may be all your husband needs.

When you approach the subject, do so in a constructive manner in neutral territory. That is, NOT in the bedroom as you're lying there frustrated after yet another disappointing attempt.

ED is a health issue and should be treated as such. Remind him, gently and supportively, that neither of you is as young as you once were, and the changes occurring are nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about. No one feels shame or embarrassment about needing eyeglasses, for example.

I know it is a difficult subject, and I wish you the best of luck in broaching the topic. Take care.
