200+ to lose

Hi there. I've been reading some of the posts and discussions by all of you and decided to reach out myself. I turned 35 in January and decided to stop living in denial and do something about my health. On my 35th birthday I stepped on the scale, and was saddened- but not shocked- to see that I was only 22 pounds from the 400 pound mark.

Thanks for the support! I know foot pain isn't the end of the world, just frustrating and very bad timing. I have been wearing shoes with better support and icing my foot a few times a day, and that's helping a lot. I am going to see the doctor on Monday to see if there is anything else I should be doing.

This is the first time I've shared my weight issues and journey with anyone. It really helps, so thanks again for the support and the suggestions and advice. I have always felt alone in all of this, it's great to know I'm not.

Well girls, I'm heading for he sunny south for a week. I will trade in my snow shovelling exercise for sunnier activities! Everyone have a great week!

And here I am...the workout fiend!

Do you have a place you can swim? That is very low impact and burns a huge number of calories - I read that Michael Phelps (Olympic Swimmer) burned like 5000 calories a day (swimming probably 8 hours a day, but still) I always think about him when I need motivation to get in the pool.

I also lift weights, and I was able to do everything but dead lifts, lunges and leg press with my foot in a boot (meaning I did squats on the Smtih machine, leg lifts and leg curls plus all kinds of upper body presses and curls.) I was also able to do ab routines. Even when my foot was in a cast and I was restricted to home, I was able to get on and off the floor to do a floor ab circuit, Pilates leg moves, and to sit in a chair and lift for upper body.

If you belong to a gym, you might explore a few sessions with a trainer - if you don't belong to a gym, you might want to join one - don't be intimidated! .

I was also able to ride the stationary bike with my foot in a boot - again, low impact.

You are not alone!
Best wishes

Thanks for all of those suggestions! I love to swim, and have thought that would be a good idea for me right now. I will look at the weights too, I was thinking cardio only but I forgot about doing weights as well. Thanks again.

I walked, went swimming and kept my food journal while on vacation and it worked! I lost 1.8 pounds this week. Not as big as my recent losses, but a loss on vacation is great for me. I will take it!
