200+ to lose

Hi there. I've been reading some of the posts and discussions by all of you and decided to reach out myself. I turned 35 in January and decided to stop living in denial and do something about my health. On my 35th birthday I stepped on the scale, and was saddened- but not shocked- to see that I was only 22 pounds from the 400 pound mark.

To Florida. It was beautiful, my first time there.

Well, I weighed in last night and I lost 1.2 pounds. Not as big as previous losses, but still a loss and that's good. I am taking a closer look at my food journal and activity and looking to the week ahead. Hopefully I will be a bigger loser next week!!

That is so right - a loss is a loss so take it and feel good!

And remember - 1.2 pounds lost means that you burned off about 4,000 calories more than what you consumed.

Thanks ev eryone. I need to learn to stop being so hard on myself and celebrate my successes instead of always looking at what I COULD have done. I think we are all al little guilty of that sometimes, which is why these discussion boards and the supportive friends in them are so important!

Yes - one to two pounds a week is very realistic and losing it slowly means that you've learned better habits and are more likely to keep it off.

I sometimes think that if we heard anyone talk to a friend the way we talk to ourselves, we would put a stop to it...self-love is very hard to learn!

I'm very happy about my weigh in this week! I lost 2.4 pounds, that makes my total loss so far 19.8. Things are really clicking for me this time, mainly because I believe I can do it and I'm not afraid to talk about it and get support from others. I was always too ashamed before. I am not ashamed anymore, I am proud.

As well you should be...not because you lost almost 20 pounds, although that is great - but just because you are the wonderful person you are.

One thing I feel about losing weight - I am the same person now as I was at my highest and lowest weights - just as nice, and just as not nice.

There is so much shame with being overweight - and it is such a vicious circle of being ashamed that you are overweight and eating to feel better about the shame, then being ashamed that you comforted yourself with food. I think recognizing that pattern and starting to love yourself and let others love you is a huge part of this journey - a part I am still working on a lot!

Best wishes

Well I had another good week, lost 2.4 again. I have been losing each week since I started, that`s never happened to me before. I have never worked this hard before either, and my attitude has always been one with future failure in mind, that is different this time too. I feel like I will make the permanent changes I need to stay healthy this time. So far, so good.
