I'm so excited to see some new faces here, so I thought I'd try a roll call.  Here's all you need to do --

First - let us know your name.

Second - Where are you from?

Third - Answer the roll call question.  (Today's Roll Call Question:  What's one of your favorite ways to control yourself when a food temptation is getting the better of you?)

I'll start:

My name is Karen.

I'm from Maryland - USA.

In answer to the question:  If I have points available, I may have a taste of the temptation.  That can help me get it out of my head sometimes.  If I really must say no, I find that playing computer or video games for a little while can get my mind off the temptation.

I'm looking forward to getting to know more about you all!

:) - Karen

Hi Karen!

My name is Wendy and I am just outside of Chicago. My favorite way to control a food temptation is to just avoid it. If I crave it and it's available, I will give in. I find that if I have to put forth effort to get something I am less likely to eat it.

Howdy, Wendy! I've never been as far west as Chicago, but I'd love to go some day. I do the avoiding thing too -- when I can manage. I used to send Halloween leftovers to work with my DH. That used to work pretty well for me. ;)

I am Brenda and I live in Kentucky.

I can't really control my food tempations but if I could I would probably not need to lose weight. lol

Hi, Brenda!

I've never been to Kentucky, but one of my grandparents was from there.  I'd really like to see it some day.  I wish I was better with controlling temptations myself -- sometimes, they are just plain overwhelming!

I'm elc in Southern California.

To head off food temptations, the first thing is I try to not have foods that I'm trying not to eat around the house, or at least not in plain sight. Then when I get a craving I first drink some water since sometimes I'm just thirsty but my body interprets it as a food craving. If that doesn't make it go away I try to figure out if its a texture that I want like crunchy or creamy etc. Then I'll try to substiture, like eat celery instead of chips. Sometimes nothing will do but the desired food but often water and a substitute will hold me until the craving passes. I cut way back on refined sugar and noticed that my cravings for it pretty much went away. I do eat a lot of fruit and so far it seems to satisfy my sweet tooth.

Hi, elc!

I've noticed the same effect from cutting back on sugars and carbs.  It really reduces my cravings a lot!
