Do you watch The Biggest Loser? Do you ever get discouraged over the amount of exercise the participants are doing to lose weight? According to Health Day News, a new study out suggests many people are not happy with what they are seeing. ""The depictions of exercise on shows like The Biggest Loserare really negative," study lead author Tanya Berry, a physical-activity promotion expert at the University of Alberta, in Canada, said in a university news release."People are screaming and crying and throwing up, and if you're not a regular exerciser you might think this is what exercise is -- that it's this horrible experience where you have to push yourself to the extremes and the limits, which is completely wrong," she said." more

I would assume most people know that the show is an extreme... The people on the show aren't your typical folks who need an hour of exercise a day. They make a DRASTIC change in their life with this show (particularly in exercise and more on point with the nutrition advice they receive). I don't think it discourages anyone and if it DOES, those people weren't going to work out anyway. The message is the same - If you exercise and eat healthy it ultimately leads to weight loss, being stronger, feeling better and and overall positive reaction on your body. That's what people should get.
Karla, your mother was right to check with her doctor first! I am 66 and my cardiologist always encourages me to exercise. I told him I get palpitations when I go too fast and he said "Then don't go too fast." LOL
