Male Jurors Biased Against Obese Women
Mon, 01-14-2013 - 4:05pm

"Male jurors are more likely to find obese women guilty than lean women, but they didn’t show the same weight bias against their own gender, a Yale University study found."

This really sort of seals the deal for me on how I swear people judge me due to my weight.

What do you all think?

Well I guess that explains "guilty by reason of obesity.".

Normally I don't visit this board, but somehow ended up here from some weird login mistake.  This post caught my attention and thought I would jump in and say:  human beings simply prefer attractive people and there is nothing attractive or healthy about being obese (entirely different from "pleasantly plump").  Therefore it is just natural that most people are biased against obese women AND men.

It would very difficult, nor does not make any sense, to legislate human instincts out of existence.

I don't think the bias against obesity will ever change and it's not just against women although it is more prevalent. Erin, living in NJ you probably heard all the comments when Chris Christy ran for presidential nomination. I don't want to start a political discussion and it doesn't matter how you feel about him as a governor, but those comments really upset me. IMO he did a great job during the Sandy crisis and his weight should have no bearing on his ability to lead the county. Even women make comments about other women. Carol

I don't think anyone needed a study to prove this happens. I hear the talk and whispers that men, even fat men, have to say about fat women. Whether people want to admit it or not, there is bias against fat people happening in every aspect of life. I personally think it's getting worse now that here is so much media attention on obesity.

The article mentioned laws to protect fat people and I'll have to disagree on that one. I think that only helps make things worse.
