Weight loss shows causing me grief

I will be the first to admit I am fat. I am trying to lose weight for health reasons but just haven't had much success and that is probably because I don't have much motivation. I'm not delusional about how I got this big and I've known all along how to avoid it. I don't hate myself, I wasn't abused as a child and I don't harbor resentment towards my parents. I just love food; I love to cook it, smell it, and taste it. I am so tired of everyone thinking I have some deep underlying mental issue or that I am unaware of my size. I feel shows like The Biggest Loser has caused me to be singled out and that people are pointing their fingers at me and trying to figure out what it was that my mother did to me when I was younger that caused me to get this big. Does anyone else wish these shows would go away so those of us who are fat can get get some peace?

I agree ! I do believe food makes us happy.. Life is food.. I use to be fat but for me I had to change my way due to health.. I love food but I want my health.. After I lost my brother and a girlfriend * not due to food I just wanted to "try" to length my life with a healthy lifestyle.. I like the losing shows not that I also do not exercise like them I just watch the change in them.. They totally have changed their lifestyle... I for one haven't changed my outlook just the way I eat and exercise.. I love food and still eat it.

tdalton, I too am fat because I like to eat.  Nothing more.  It is in my family's genetic disposition to be overweight.  But I do believe it is possible that things in people's past could cause them to overeat and gain weight.   It just isn't true of everyone.  I enjoy watching weight loss shows such as BL, but I take it with a grain of salt.  Very few people can exercise to the extreme that it depicts, and even fewer will lose weight at that rate.  But I enjoy seeing the change in people as they go through the process.

Interesting!  I guess I've never thought of it that way.  Though I was watching Biggest Loser earlier this week and thought "Geez, Jillian, not everyone who is overweight has deep dark issues they are dealing with."  It is really odd how that show instantly jumps to that conclusion.
