The tax season is over so I am back

Hello everyone.  I can finally get back to posting since the tax season is over.  I took a mini vacation to Las Vegas this past week to celebrate the end of the tax season and to participate in a slot tournament.  I did really bad at the tournament but had a great time none the less.

I have been really bad at eating the right things lately (mostly due to work stress) and because of my work schedule working out with my trainer has been non-existent.  As a result, I've put on about 30 lbs.  My clothes are tight, I feel sluggish and angry with myself for sliding back into the bad habits.  I need to shake it off and regroup but am struggling with that as well.  My trainer gave her two week notice and Thursday is her last day.  The man she has assigned us to is very hard core - body builder etc.  He says he's worked with obese patients before however I am concerned that he thinks my sister and I are just lazy and not that we have real limitations due to severe osteoarthritis in the hips, knees and spine.

As background, I had RNY bypass surgery 12/2009.  I lost 225 lbs but in the last few months have gained about 30 back.  I need to lose about 70 more to get to about 150. I'm 5'4" and on Wednesday I will be 53 years old.

Any suggestions for restarting the weight loss campaign?

Mary

Have you had any sessions with the new trainer yet? If you feel he isn't taking medical conditions into account I suggest asking for a different trainer, and explain why. Hard core body builders don't seem to think there is any reason not to do everything, whether it hurts or not. Pain is NOT gain, it's your body's way of saying something is wrong.

I haven't worked out with him yet, however, he knows us and when we are in the facility working out on our own he has made comments about how or what we are doing.  He is coming from a place of helpfulness but I don't feel like he listens to what we are saying, like he thinks we are just making excuses.  I'm particularly agitated because the facility was running a special promotion, in which we had to pay $770 by April 1st.  The price is a good one so we decided to take advantage of it.  Our trainer knew she was considering leaving but didn't tell us about that so now we are locked in for 30 sessions with a trainer we didn't get to choose.  I'm just annoyed at the whole situation, mostly at the old trainer.  There are alot of different facilities in our area and if we had known the trainer was leaving we could have investigated whether or not there was another trainer that would better suit our needs.

Thanks for the response.  You and Alice really do a great job encouraging all of us on our journey.

Mary--

To restart the weight loss it's just a matter of just do it!!!! Go back to protein first, watch carbs, log every bite you eat, move your body, take your vitamins, drink your water---there is no easy way, no fun way--but you are still getting on the scale and acknowledging your need to regain control so you are moving in the right direction.  I know for me I need to routinely get on the scale and I have a 5lb comfort zone and when I get to the top end of that I need to pay more attention to what I am eating and cut back on carbs.   It's so easy to let our portions get bigger and graze a little here but the good news is once we resume focus on eating healthy and log things it shouldn't take long to get back into a healthy routine.   Are you still doing daily protein shakes?

No, I need to start again because I know the main reason I've gained is due to too little protein and too many carbs.  I still find it difficult to process many proteins so I've been taking the easy way out with filling up on the easier to digest carbs.  Tomorrow is my birthday and the present I'm giving myself is health.  I AM going to put myself and my health as my first priority and stick to the plan.

Thanks for the encouragement.
