What to do with kitchen counter clutter trap?

Hi!

Wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to handle kitchen counter clutter. I have one area that becomes the dumping ground. Not matter how often it's cleaned, it piles back up. :/

Would a box be a good idea? Since people seem to keep dumping, at least having it in a box would enable me to pick it up and walk around with it putting stuff away and keep the area clean for pop-in guests.

Would love suggestions!

We used to keep a basket on the counter. Anything that got left laying on the counter ended up in the basket. After a while, people started just putting it in the basket. They also were more likely to pick stuff up and put it away the first time rather than have to take the time to find it in the basket. The only problem is when it becomes a graveyard for things no one ever wants to look for or forgets and you have to clean it out more frequently than expected, but I was able to find a pretty basket and it sort of spiffed up the area.

Echoing the basket idea.  That's what I use.  For me, it's the kitchen counter that seems to be the dumping ground for everything.  I have a cute basket on the counter that everything goes into.  At the end of the week, I'll go through everything that's accumulated and either put it away or toss it.
