Last night it really hit me that I have serious work to do. In 18 days I'll have a throng of relatives arriving for a big family party. Then up to 13 of them will spend the night (hopefully a few of them can stay elsewhere). And 3 of them will be staying for a few additional days. We have one full bath (with tub/shower) and one half-bath with only a commode and sink...this should be good with everybody trying to shower. But the real issue is where to put them. We have one real guest room with a queen bed, and two queen size sofa sleepers--in the den and in my office. And one sofa in the living room, although the cushions from the sofa sleepers can be made into 2 more "mattresses". All of our floors are bare wood but we have a thick area rug in the living room.
But wait, there's more. We're supposed to have work done on the house, plaster repair on walls in the living room, dining room, den, and hallway. It was supposed to be done weeks ago but the guy has been hung up on another job and keeps delaying my job. We had also hoped to get those rooms repainted, all before the party, but doesn't look like that is gonna happen. So I'm just hoping that I can have the furniture back in place and the plaster dust cleaned up before the guests arrive.
The real chore at hand is de-cluttering. The LR/DR/kitchen aren't too bad, I probably can get them decluttered in a few sessions. The real issue is my office, its a wreck. Its the dumping ground for everything I don't know where else to put. The flat surfaces all have lots of stuff on them, mostly paper clutter. It used to be a bedroom so there's a closet which is stacked with boxes and bags of more stuff, again mostly paper. Seems I have some difficulty in parting with papers LOL. This morning it occured to me that the people staying in my office may want to hang some clothes and will probably figure the closet is the place....not the way it looks now! So working on the closet is on my secondary list. I guess I can't stash everything from the flat surfaces into the closet!!
I'm trying to not get overwhelmed. There's a lot more going on besides the decluttering task including planning the details of the weekend and preparing the backyard where the actual party will be held. Yikes!! If I can stay focused and organized I can do this, its just that focused and organized part where I get in trouble! Wish me luck!
