Up for a challenge?

Anyone up for some eco-challenges? I read so many blogs where the authors host month long, or quarter long challenges. I'm participating in a Ditch the Disposables challenge right now on the Crunchy Domestic Goddess blog. I've also done a "freeze your buns" challenge in the past where you promise to keep your thermostat a few degrees lower than normal in the winter.

There are so many options out there that I thought we could do something fun. It could be a week long challenge like try taking 5 minute showers for a week. Or month long like try to go a month without buying anything. Or a seasonal challenge like making your child's Halloween costume, or making some of the Christmas gifts you give.

What do you think? Is this something you'd try? Any ideas or thoughts?

I'm in, although I'd have a problem with the 5 min shower... *grins sheepishly*

ME TOO! That's one of my weaknesses. I can't even imagine how someone can wash their whole body, shave, shampoo & condition hair, etc. in 5 minutes. Okay, so we'll save that for another time.

Any ideas of what you'd like to do? Anything you need to work on? Here are some things I've thought about:

- cutting back on meat

- eat a local meal at least once per week

- wash dishes using only 1 sink full of water

- try making a food that you normally purchase (home made mac & cheese instead of boxed)

- buy nothing for 1 week (or 1 month)

- trade a personal product for something you make (baking soda instead of tooth paste kind of thing)

Let me know if anyone has any other ideas or desires. Once we choose something I can post promos on some other boards and see who else I can get to join in!

- cutting back on meat
hmmm, no. lol. I like my meat.

- eat a local meal at least once per week
this I can probably do.

- wash dishes using only 1 sink full of water
that would be my DH...

- try making a food that you normally purchase (home made mac & cheese instead of boxed)
I already do this most of the time. I don't like boxed/canned foods.

- buy nothing for 1 week (or 1 month)
does this include Starbucks???

- trade a personal product for something you make (baking soda instead of tooth paste kind of thing)
This I could do, too. But I would need some suggestions.

Hi Kellie -- Love this idea! I need to try to green/simplify my holiday routines, for sure.
