How do you talk about being "green" without being pushy?

Earth Day is approaching next month and I always feel like it's a good time to spread the green word. But how do you talk to people about living a more sustainable lifestyle without sounding too preachy?

I'm not a judgemental person at all, but friends and family will often start a sentence by saying, "Don't turn me into the green police but..." :smileyfrustrated:

I simply talk about my green life and how much I like it.

I had a chance to observe something interesting this week-end.

That's really neat Trudy. That's the kind of example I try to set as well. I was always taught to "lead by example" and I think that's how many people learn best.

I blog about our green lifestyle and know that many of our friends read it. I think that's a great way to show some of the eco-friendly things that we do, without being too "in your face" with it.

I try to emphasize that being green also saves the green (money that is). People who don't care about the ecology DO care about their wallets!

I guess I just show by example and jump into conversations without worrying about being a greenie or tree hugger or any of the other names! Thick skinned, maybe?

I've found that letting people see me use really cool reusable or upcycled stuff really does spark interest.

I totally agree, Trudy. People are always asking me "where did you get that ________ (fill in the blank)" and when I say I made it out of old jeans or a coffee can or garden ivy, etc., they usually ask how I did it or did I make a pattern. They want something unique, too! Remaking things makes it possible to have one of a kind stuff!
