I've collected shells and rocks since I was just a little kid

and was looking for a way to display them.
We were going to put shelves on the back of the raised hearth in the living room that really doesn't get much use except when I put a bookcase up there to show off some collection.
ANYway, I was getting a double ended USB cord so I can get my Hawaii movies off the camera and the Hallmark shop next door had a maple display rack out front for $35. Five shelves, cantilevered (working down in depth), all hardware. It was interesting but I figured $35 was a little high for used display stuff and there probably wasn't a lot of demand. I asked the young lady about when they went out for sale and she said they'd been there 3-4-5 days. She wasn't sure. So I said, well, I'll make an offer of $25.
She got her manager and the manager asked HOW MANY did I want? They had three. I told her I'd take two but I'd like to dicker on the price. Luckily, her manager happened to call just then and okayed it so I got two for $50. They're quite good looking as is, but DH would like to remove the bottom pedestal and attach the back directly to the wall. Only one wil fit up there and he thought maybe we could cut the other in half to cover the whole wall and use the left over piece to make an "L" shaped set of shelves.
I THOUGHT I could get one in my Subaru.....amazing little bus hauls so much, but we lacked clearance by an inch. I was going to come home and borrow my neice's BF's van but a guy who was there to pick up his daughter had a big truck and volunteered to bring them both home for me. He refused payment, even...AND the store sent one of their stockboys to help unload them as well. Between those two and my son, it was no problem! Except now they sit in the living room...waiting for a decision on their final form!
Guess it will give me time to label some of the shells?
