Did they auction off the rooster??? We had 4-Hs have some nasty shocks at the state fair when they found out their pet was really a market animal which by the terms of the trip got to go to the auction block..literally.

4-H now has a program called "Cloverbuds" for the younger kids.

I absolutely love the county fair. The fair where I grew up is really fun. It is still largely agricultural over there, so the fair still has the old flavor to it. I never did anything particularly agricultural when I was growing up - no raising farm animals or anything like that, so I don't have the personal connection to that. Other members of my family, yes, but I have never been involved in that. When I was a kid though, we went to the fair every year, and it was always a ton of fun. I still love to go. I must admit, I spend half my time in food alley eating the fair food. Between the fried burritos, tri tip sandwiches, and cinnamon rolls, I am in heaven - LOL. Oh, and don't forget the mango on a stick with chile powder. Mmmm mmmm mmmmm. Ok, my mouth is watering now.

The fair in my county is just lame though. We used to be very agricultural, but things have changed. Now the fair is basically a carnival with chintzy rides and tents filled with spa sales booths - LOL.

I should be heading to a regional fair sometime in September ... depending on my work schedule. It's not this county but a few counties over but it draws people from all over so it's more like the whole region. I've been going to it since I was little and I try to make it every year.

We used to love to go see the baby pigs. For some reason my sister and I would always be excited about them and now it's cool to see her kids really excited to see them too. We pet the sheep, look at the Clydesdales, sometimes ride a camel, see the "world's smallest horse" (yeah right!), the "world's largest Alligator," (I don't think it's even alive), look at the quilts, artwork, and baked goods, pet the rabbits, feed the ducks, stick the kids on the ponies, eat cotton candy and/or funnel cakes and call it a day. It's like the good old days for us too. I love living rural!!
