Yep, that's what our local haulers voted. The poor garbage guys only get $110,00 a year and you are NOT misreading that but the recycling guys only get $94,000 a year.....definitely impossible to live on.....LOL. Sure, it can be a nasty smelly job, but now, here at least, you just roll the bins up to the truck and it lifts and empties them....no real physical labor imvolved. Not particularly dangerous if the rules are followed. Not prestige, of course, but a worthwhile and honest job.
We're being even more careful to separate out ANYTHING that can compost or recycle. I'm washing the recyling stuff down a little more carefully and we're tying what remains tightly into heavy bags that we'll keep in the shade. The strike just started.....they did pick up our recycling this a.m.
But, for those who don't recycle or compost, this will be a smelly summer until it settles! What other steps would you take to keep the aroma down???????
