We're chugging along...

We got the upstairs rooms pretty much painted. I say "pretty much" because I still need to do the door and door jamb and the closet doors and trim in the bedroom. (the windows were professionally painted 3 years ago at the time of installation and still look good so I'm not messing with them). We finished dh's office including trim, with the exception of the door. We finished that on Sunday afternoon. Several weeks ago I asked for advice in an earlier post; I can now say that I pretty much know what I'm doing in regard to basic interior painting LOL.

On Monday the hardwood refinisher arrived to do the floor in dh's office. Sections of it were pretty beat up and since dh was moved out of there we decided to go for it. This morning he came back to apply the third and final coat of urethane. It looks beautiful! I just hope that our lungs and brains recover from the fumes...even with all of the windows open and fans running the odor was really strong.

Shortly after he left the painting contractor arrived to paint some sample patches on the walls so we can decide on our colors. He's scheduled to arrive next Monday morning to start his crew working here. We'll have them do the upstairs landing (including that office door) and the stairs first, then start on the downstairs where they will be painting 3 rooms plus a long hallway. When they finish upstairs we'll quickly move dh's office stuff back up to his office (he's been using the dining room for his office for almost 2 months, since the plaster guy did his job up there). Once we get the rest of his office stuff out of our bedroom we can move out of the guest room and back to our bedroom (again 2 months---boy do I miss my memory foam mattress!). I forgot to ask the painter how long he thinks it will take but I'm guessing about a week depending on how big the crew is.

Once dh is out of the dining room I need to get an electrician over to see why the circuit for the dishwasher isn't working. The dishwasher is fine, we plugged it in to an extension cord to check, its the outlet at the back of the dw space. I also need to replace some deadbolts which I probably can do myself, if not there may be a locksmith here also but that should be quick.

I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel yet, but at least we're entering the tunnel!

We hired a pro to paint the living room and dining room since the paint job will be viewed by guests just sitting there with opportunity to scrutinize the work LOL; and also to paint the library and hallway, mainly because there's a lot of wood trim/doors. We did the master bedroom and dh's office ourselves to save some money, figuring that if we did a crummy job only we would see it...but I think we did a pretty good job. We had intended to do the landing and stairway ourselves but decided to have the pro do it. Painting two rooms was enough for me.

Never fear, the light is out there! I think you are making marvelous progress!

But it sounds like you've decided to not paint all the rooms yourselves? I know we would hire someone to do the living room, foyer (cathedral ceilings two stories high) and the stair way becaus all three would require scafolding of some sort. Is that your issue?
