I was eying a great lamp at Goodwill over the weekend...until I saw that it was $39 - YIKES! Lamps are a great accessory for any room, IMO.

Actually, $35 is a pretty good price if the lamp is sound... And aren't places like GooWill supposed to ensure that wiring in electrical appliances are safe?

Is it? I guess I haven't purchased a big lamp in awhile. The last few I bought were also at Goodwill, but smaller and $3.99 - $7.99.

I'm not sure if they really check the wiring. One of the ones I bought there gave me a tiny little shock each time I turned it on. But it was cute! ;)

Someplace I read (or was it on Antiques RoadShow) that it was, if not illegal, unethical to resell old applieances with old wiring and many thrift shops and places like Godwill didn't accept such donations becasue of the need to repair them. This site says all appliances should be in working order:
