Bedroom furniture placement

I have a large guest room which I plan to rearrange to make it more multi-functional. Currently, the bed is in the middle of a long wall... I'm going to move it down to the rear of the room to make room for a sitting area near the door (sofa, TV, and small chair), giving the room two distinct zones.

After I thought of this, I began to wonder whether I should do the same thing to my master bedroom. I have a wing chair in that room, which is just on its own

Well, to be the focal point, it would have to be immediately visible when you come in the door --- so a lot depends on where the door is.

If you move the bed, is there room for side tables near it? Does it free up wall space for chests of drawers, etc.? Would the chair still be by the same window (Similar design shows indicate that if you don't put a chair by the window, no-one would think to sit by the window and enjoy the view...)?

I'd do the guest room arrangement first and see how you like it... then decide.

Also, if you are planning on selling, would such a large bed make the room look a little unbalanced to potential buyers? Even if selling is 18 months away, you do have to live with it, and you surely don't want to move everything back to sell it!

By the way, as an avid reader, I have NEVER understood the need for a chair/table arrangement in a bedroom for reading! Where do you store the books? Why not read on the bed? And wouldn't the chair still end up as a dumping ground for bedding (like throw pillows) and clothing?

Thanks for the things to think about. The bed is actually not too big for the room... it is a queen but a canopy and not one of those ones with massive posts. Anyway, I'll do the guest room first and proceed from there.

Ah, a canopy! I understand. That would be a PITA to move around...

I thought you meant something like a King-soized sleigh bed (which, IMO, could be worse! LOL)...

FInal advice --- make the room like YOU want it. You do have to live with it, after all!
