Help me match my cabinets & granite! : )

Good Morning,

I'm new here and looking for some advice please.

We are buying a house that has dark stained maple cabinets with back granite countertops. I like both the cabinets and the granite, but not together, I don't think they go at all. I don't have tons a of cash to renovate and it seems wastful to rip out granite. Any ideas?

I have attached a picture.

Hi, and welcome!

The others have given you some great suggestions. Paint is a great way to lighten up a place --- and stainless appliances would add some bling. You could also add some bright accessories like kitchen towels, curtains, pot holders --- even bowls of fruit or a jug full of colorful kitchen utensils to add some brightness to dark corners. Even new cabinet hardware can serve to brighten up the place.

Oh, and is there under-cabinet lighting? Over cabinet lighting? That could also help. We have both in our kitchen, the latter being one of those fiber-optic light "cables"...

While it is possible to paint cabinets (we have a whole thread on painting cabinets, it seems a crime to paint such beautiful maple wood. Perhaps you cold have them refinished in a lighter color? Only the doors would need to be refinished...

Great kitchen! I agree with you - both the counter tops and the cabinets are very nice, but I wouldn't have put them together with black appliances on top of it all. Have you considered changing the appliances? I think stainless steel would look nice and brighten things up a bit.
