We filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy last year and it was discharged April 2010. Last week I checked my and my husbands credit scores and 3 of our accounts say closed by grantor instead of chapter 7 bankruptcy. We called the credit bureau, now is there anything else we should do. We only called Transunion because it was the only one we got and they said they'd look into it but it takes 4 to 6 weeks. I thought our score would we higher by now.

Its going to take quite a bit of time for your credit score to start going back up. What you should do is if you can get your free credit report online, you can dispute the notes put on that says closed by grantor. What it will do is ask you your BK discharge date, possibly the case no. and possibly a few other questions. Its been a while since i've had to correct any of my entries. The credit agency then verifies this information and corrects it, or asks you for additional information, that's why its imperative that you keep all your BK records for at least 10 years if not longer. You may have to check the reports every year and have things recorrected here and there. But stay on top of things and eventually it will begin to go up.
