As I've written I've been paying down the credit cards (just 2 of them) - still have a LONG way to go but at least there is now substantial breathing room. However, last week I actually got 3 new cc offers - including 2 in 1 day!!!!  I know we're doing better, but really?  Glad to know our score must have gone up but how can it be good enough to get more offers, or even what  would could our credit limit on a new card be?   We had a tough month this month between dh's new glasses plus almost $600 in vet bills, plus probably more tomorrow. I did have to transfer $400 from our savings (not the EF).  Our poor dog has pancreatitis so I'll find out tomorrow what we need to do. She loves the special diet cans but wow - $2/can!

I have often thought of applying for every card I got an offer for just to see when, if ever, they will draw the limit. The sad part of our financial system is that lurng people into debt, forcing them to pay high interest rates, collecting late fees, is how credit cad issuers make money. I use cards that give me cash back, I charge everything, and pay my balance in full each month....I am a nightmare customer from a profit standpoint because I never pay them anything extra.

It is not about you having a better credit score, the CC companies and banks know CCs are a huge profit center and with more people employed today, the offers are going back out to all again. You still have to apply for those cards, and I am sure it says somewhere that they have a right to decline or alter the offer terms if you do not qualify. This article from March of 2013 in Time tells the story: http://business.time.com/2013/03/28/why-banks-love-debit-cards-again/ -M

I think of credit card companies as loan sharks.  The offers are too tempting and hook so many people into way too much debt.

Sorry about the dog issues.  I had a poodle in that lived from 1990- 2005 with pancreatitis.  Special food was required, but later on I switched her to cooked chicken, bland rice and broth.  She lived as you can do the math to a ripe old age of 15 1/2.

Good luck (btw, she was on Science Diet Lamb & Rice canned food for years.  Could not eat the dry food.

I started getting those offers again the last several months, but I figured my "opt out" had expired or something.
