Calculate Your Hourly Worth

Here's an interesting tool to calculate your hourly worth and decide whether to DIY or hire it out. I'm likely to do many home improvement projects myself because I like doing them and, even if I'm worth more, it can still be painful to shell out money to have someone else do it.

Where do you draw the line between DIY and hiring something out?

Tool: Calculate Your Hourly Worth

Ever wonder if you should tackle a task yourself—for example, painting your room or cleaning your house—or hire someone to do it for you? Use this calculator to estimate the value of an hour of your time. Once you’ve figured out your number, you can use it to help you decide whether to shell out the money and save some time, or do it yourself and save some cash.

Huh, that was interesting. In the late 80's, while I was working my way through college as a single mom, I had valued my spare time at \$12 per hour becaus my time was at a premium. For example, if it would take me over an hour to bus somewhere but less than \$12 to take a taxi, I would take the taxi.

I just did the on-line calculator and I'm now worth \$12.74. I haven't increased in value over 3 decades! LOL, or maybe my "stock" has gone down?
