Christmas Budget

So I opted to take the advice of some stellar Christmas planners on this board (you know who you are) and plan out my Christmas budget). Even with cutting back on some people it STILL came out to $1060.00. Egads. Part of this is the fact that I've now got a staff of three reporting in to me and they have worked their tails off this past year so I want to recognize that.

Now, this budget accounts for EVERYTHING (i.e. cost of ingredients for cookies, dinner, gas to get to family, gifts, hostess gifts, gas to go to Ottawa to spend the weekend making presents with my friends) etc.

I'm going to take a look and see if I can cut back 10% to bring it under $1k. Luckily I have been putting money aside all season for this and I use the fact that I don't pay property tax in November or December to cover it (My city only takes taxes out Jan-Oct but I still include it as part of my budget and send the difference to the Christmas fund). I will still need to take $250 from my government cheque to make sure I have enough to cover it.

I feel better though having a plan. In reality, I probably spend WAY more then this every year but have just never tracked it!

I just talked to my sister and we are still trying to nail down a date for her to come out with her family this year for dinner. I think we are closer to getting it decided. I will make lasagna again this year. I still have frozen appetizers left over from the wedding and wine so I won't need to purchase that, plus I need to scale things down a bit this year, I went way overboard this year.

Holy Hanna Karen I can't believe how far you are already. Egads. I thought I was ahead of the game with my budget :)

As Audrey mentioned earlier writing it down really was a slap in the face. But Christmas is my favourite time of year and I have been planning for it, so it's not entirely bad.

Still, after reading all you've done, I feel the need to go out and buy just one present!!!

Because I sell Avon I shop all year and look for deeply discounted rep deals. I have my BF, my sister, my niece, my nephew and most of my kid's stocking stuffers all done. Plus I bought something for DH I saw deeply discounted at Canadian tire already. He may get more though, lol, we'll see. I am waiting for my children's pictures. I send some to my parents and that is their gift, the 5x 7s. So that is basically paid for, I do have to send it but waiting for them still and the cheque to clear. Some wrapping to do...
