Dang Murphy!

The other day I couldn't find my glasses (I have to wear them to drive). Well I finally found them on the floor of my car...they had been stepped on...and are now in 4 different pieces. Thankfully I had been building our medical account. It turns out I hadn't had my eyes tested since 2008!!! I ended up at Walmart for my eye exam. I originally planned on getting my results and taking it to Lenscrafters and have my glasses in an hour or so. But OMG Walmart's glasses are so cheap!! I ended up ordering my glasses (and sunglasses!) there, PLUS saving tons. My broken pair of glasses was about $800. I had my eye exam, 1 pr of glasses, 1 pr of sunglasses for a grand total of $372! Woohoo!

So Murphy had his visit...now moving forward!!

I had to laugh when I read this.  Sounds just like my life!  I just wanted to let you know that you can save a TON of money by buying glasses online.  I found out about it at freshcoolglasses.com and haven't looked back.  I was able to buy 2 pairs of glasses for me for less than the cost of one pair, even at Costco.  Best of all, I bought a couple pair of glasses for my son.  He's constantly losing and breaking his glasses, and they're so much cheaper online.  It used to drive me crazy when he lost his glasses.  Well, I guess it still does.  But at least I'm not going broke every time he loses or breaks them!

We use Sams to get new glasses and contact for 3 of the 4 members of our family.  What's great about Sams is that you don't have to be a member to use their services.  Their glasses are very well priced.  We have eye insurance through work that gives us a pair of glasses or contacts for each of us up to $200 dollars every year.  So we go there after seeing the eye doctor.  We choose a pair of glasses under the $200 limit and walk out of there not paying a penny.  This is the only good eye insurance we have ever had.

My coworker uses Costco. She has family who works there and gets a discount! I picked my glasses up today!!! Going a week with no glasses has really messed with my head. The headaches have been insane! Thank goodness I had today off work, I think I've slept my day away. Very glad to see so many others use Walmart for their glasses and are happy with them. Makes me feel better with my decision. Hubby made an appointment for his exam next Friday. He's been in serious need of new glasses too. Knowing the affordable cost makes it much easier to spend the money.

What a savings!  It's unfortunate you had to buy new glasses in the first place but with it being so long since you last exam, it was better that you took care of your eyes now.  Hopefully you can find some other great savings hidden somewhere for yourself.

Another good thing about both walmart and costco, and sam's also, if you frames are in good shape and you just don't want to buy a new pair, but need the lenses updated, they will replace the lenses for about $100. We do this for my ODD who has 2 pairs of glasses and she loves the frames, but her prescription changes just about every year, so we take them in and just have the lenses replaced, much cheaper!

Wow, I finally got in so that I could post.  Still having lots of trouble with the board.  But I just had to add my 2 cents!!  Good job on your eye exam & glasses, I just went to COSTCO for the first time...eye exam $79 & 1 pair of prescription sunglasses + 1 pair of bifocle glasses $295!  My last pair of glasses from the local eye dr that I've gone to for years was $800!!  I'd heard good things about Costco so I gave it a try.  The downfall is that it is 75 miles away for me.  I feel like I saved hundreds & really needed a stronger prescription so now the fine print isn't blurry!!!

Have a good week

Well at least you learned something from this whole mess and were able to find a cheaper way to get your glasses! Sorry it happened but glad you love your new glasses!

I got my glasses & exam at Walmart two years ago and I still love them.  I recommended my husband use them and he has also had great success.  We both love the doctor there and got a very good exam.

Hope Murphy takes a hike from you and the rest of the board members!

  1. I used Lenscrafters once, but have used Walmart for new lenses ever since.  I have also heard that Shopko and Costco are good places, also.  The wait is worth the savings.
