Oh my, they are all so cute!! That polar bear cub looks really tuckered!
Sometimes I feel like we are like the Emperor Penguins in the documentary "March of the Penguins". We are taking our long, debt-free journey together, periodically huddling here on the message boards to seek warmth and companionship. We just don't have Morgan Freeman narrating our journey.
Very interesting question and interesting reading everyone's answers.
Overall, I do love my job. I love crunching numbers, I love the people, I love trying to improve things. I do have some freedom in my hours but not always, I always give my staff time off if they need it as that is how you keep good staff.
Bumblingalong, I wonder if our parents influence our attitudes towards work? After reading your post, I thought "Gee, my dad hated his job". My Mom didn't hate her job, but she wasn't career oriented. It was simply a way to make money. In hindsight, I think I'm somewhat like my Mom (though slightly more passionate about my field of work).
I was also thinking : is it necessary to change your job if you're unhappy? There have been times I was able to change my attitude or take on a new project or even just taking a vacation sometimes helps. In other words, sometimes the problem is ME and not the job.
LOL, I've never been to a party with a monkey!! But I think I'd rather have a penguin!

O.k. I must be around an unusual demographic or something.
I've watched many family members transition to new careers without any problems.
For example, my father was in a certain field and got burnt out/ disenchanted, so he turned to teaching at the college level.

My job used to be my dream job, but now it's my nightmare.
Late to the party, but wanted to chime in before reading any of the other posts.
