Hi dsg friends, I just realized in the past couple of weeks that I will self sabotage my budget/saving plans all of the time but I won't touch my daughter's accounts. I realize that I also do this in other areas of my life so I am going to really work on this. Has anyone else dealt with this and had sucess overcoming it?

I do this in many areas...

I notice that if a relative sends money for my DD it goes straight to her savings (which never gets touched) but if a relative sends me money it automatically gets spent on DD.

I'm sure you've looked into this, but any chance that you can get a refund for the tuition if you have a doctor's note?

Yup. I am what Karen refers to as a "fund flipper". I have separate accounts for all my sinking funds but so many times I'll steal from one to fund another. I really don't know why I bother with the different accounts. I should lump them into one, but for now it works for me. The one that I won't touch unless absolutely necessary is the efund. Even now with my crazy furnace expenditure, I'm still not planning on using the efund because I have 6 months so figure out how to deal with it.

I'm sure you've looked into this, but any chance that you can get a refund for the tuition if you have a doctor's note? Just a thought! I guess I would be hesitant to spend so much money at the moment (but of course, given that aside from purchasing a house and car, I just spend the most money in one shot that I ever have) I'm REALLY biased!

However, you know, when you keep coming upon things that you have wanted for a long time [snip] and you finally find a good deal or the one you want and you actually still want it....you tend to buy them, even if they are not in your budget. I think that is human nature.

Thanks Karen, that was helpful. I want a dyson vacume cleaner also and the are 50$ off at costco but I will resist. I decided to go back to work 2 weeks earlier then planned to give us a bit more peace i.e. Off our lind of credit and flaking a little towards debt. It will only be 2 4hour shifts so I think it will be just fine. I too want to create an account that is harder to dip into. I was even thinkng about setting up a seperate account for my at home pt job and just forget about the $ b/c it is only about 150 every two weeks. So not much but would be a great way to start saving.

Dh and I have separate and accounts that are together. We have a joint chequing
