good news and bad news

Today is the 2 yr anniversary of SO's and my first date. We went downtown for Chinese food and after we were done eating he said, "I got you something." and slid a box across the table. Inside was an engagement ring! :)

The bad news is I stopped by the Subway where my second job is to check the new schedule and I was not on it. I will call the manager tomorrow, but it's not looking good. I started two weeks ago and have only worked about ten hours, and twenty dollars of that is taken out of my check to pay for the uniform, which it appears I will no longer need. Sigh. I guess I'll spend tomorrow filling out more apps.

Great point. When I met my DH he had no college education and was working as a waiter. He got his first office job from customers he served more than once. They really like his personality and demeanor and offered his a sales job. Now he's a manager. So even if you're not in the job you want, do your best, you never know who's path you might cross.

Well, a little to the party I see.

The main thing is that you asked. My two oldest kids are 23 and 26 and it takes me back to so many "kids" just assuming things when they are not put on the schedule, then wonder why they are not put on again the next week. You have to be proactive with these things.

Every little bit of experience helps and although I know it was your second job, you will have a leg up if you want to keep checking back with them or maybe even another store. Always keep the doors open.

Oh, I can't forget to congratulate you on your engagement! I adore love stories. :)

Well, it turns out they just don't need me right now after all. I guess I'm back to filling out applications.

Ahh a new life ahead with someone you love!

I would go to the manager and ask how you can get more hours. Remember that companies want people who EXCEL in customer service and always try to save the company money or make more profit. When you are there, do all you can to be the best service person you know, and who knows, maybe someone in line is hiring and will grab you! I always found my best employees working somewhere else.

Big, happy Congrats on your engagement! :) That's fabulous! Best wishes!

Don't give up on Subway yet, just might be a slow week with fewer hours for the manager to hand out. I know newer employees usually get the shaft. Hang in there!
