Has anyone ever tried selling jewelry?

I am thinking of ways to earn extra money.  I have some good jewelry that I could sell--like a diamond wedding band (I'm divorced so definitely don't have any sentimental value there).  But I don't want to be ripped off either.  Has anyone tried selling on EBay or any other way?  I did look at the prices for some similar rings there & they seemed pretty low.  I wouldn't way to sell it if I could only get a couple of hundred $$.

Hello Music!

I think that is a great idea.  I would think selling it person to person would get you the most money.   If Jen's ring sold right before Valentines Day, you may get lucky doing it now before Christmas.

Do be careful though selling something like that on Craigslist to a stranger.  Be safe if you go that route.

About 2 years ago I sold some gold and got really good prices for them. I would not do it on Ebay, but instead go to at least 3 jewlers in your area to get prices from them. We did use an old diamond from a past marriage and the gold band to get other jewelry pieces, so we got a good trade in value. Another time I sold gold, broken pieces, and got more than I expected. It is definately worth doing but be sure to have a good plan for the funds.

I would be cautious too - so many ppl do get ripped off. I think craigslist and ebay are the way to go because you don't have to settle and can try to get closer to what it's worth.

There are lots of things you can sell on there as well - not just jewellery.

Good idea!

I was able to sell DHs old engagement ring from his former fiance for about 75% of what he paid for it on Ebay. It was 3 years old, so it wasn't brand new...I photographed the ring from several angles and had it cleaned at the jewelers who sold it to him. I also had all of the original paperwork included (ring had a fantastic waranty). It did take several times listing it, but I finally was able to sell it near Valentines day :) It was totally worth it to be rid of that thing...
