I'm Married!!!

Hi everyone,

It's been difficult for me to post of late and I've missed you all.  With the growing pains of the board changes, intermittent to no internet connection because of Sandy and most importantly because I was busy getting married I have been MIA :)

To put it simply, our wedding day was such a beautiful experience of happiness and love!  We couldn't have asked for a better day weather wise either.

On another subject I wanted to report my October month's progress on my debt freedom campaign.  The DH & I worked hard to pay off $5175.00 in October!  We really surprised ourselves given that we also had wedding expenses to cover but we had some money set aside for that.  Our initial goal was to pay off the debt by Dec 31 2012 but we are optomistic that we can get the job done realistically by mid-December but secretly we're shooting for the end of November lol.

Here is our debt total progress chart since we started our debt freedom march ;)

Aug 1st 2012  $16,622.21 Sept 1st 2012  $12,267.21 Oct 1st 2012  $9,649.04 Nov 1st 2012  $4,474.04

I hope that those that were in Sandy's path are unharmed and are safe.

Thank you Marie.  I really wanted for us to be in a healthier financial position by the time we got married and I'm very proud of our efforts.  You've been an incredible inspiration for me over the years seeing you pay off over 6 figures in debt...I believe that you and many other members with your efforts helped me to get to this point :)

Serenity!  I'm already picturing how fast and fat my E-fund will be LOL!  Knowing that we'll be in a position to do so much more with our money is freeing.  We already are not wasteful consumers but if I want to spend a couple hundred dollars on a gift for the DH, I will no longer have to quadruple question the purchase and that, my friend, is an amazing feeling to me.

No time for a honeymoon at the moment due to our work schedules.  We are hoping to create some downtime during the Christmas holidays and escape somewhere, anywhere!

Oh yes Dee there will be a budget for the honeymoon but I won't lose it mentally if we go over it lol!

Thanks Jen.  I am sometimes amazed that we are succeeded at our debt payoff goal the way we are.  But I believe in putting out to the universe what you want to achieve.  You are doing so much, being a wife, mother, going to school and working if I remember correctly - I have a lot of respect for your efforts.

We feel incredibly blessed and happy :)  Thanks for the well wishes and wow 34 years!  I'm looking forward to hitting that :)

It's absolutely awful the impact this storm has had over so many states!

Thanks so much!  It feel so nice to refer to him as my DH and he's getting a real kick in introducing me to people as his wife :)

To answer your question our next immediate saving goals are to beef up our E-Fund to $10k and save towards the immigration fees.  We'll be hiring a lawyer so that will definitely add to the cost - the green card process will cost us a few thousand I'm sure.  We will begin the immigration process around Oct 2013 as DH is only eligible to apply for US citizenship in June 2013.  Until then I will keep commuting back to Montreal on a monthly basis to make sure we continue to respect the laws.

We also want a new to us car here in NY but I still have my paid off Mazda sitting in my parents' underground parking in Montreal.  We're debating whether I should drive it over since my current car insurance covers me in Canada, the US and Mexico, sell it, keep it in Montreal until I get my green card...decisions, decisions!

We are also planning to start savings towards a downpayment for a house.  So we have a lot to accomplish where our money is concerned ;)

BIG HUGS and CONGRATULATIONS!!!    I cannot tell you how proud I am of the way you two are starting off your new life together.  It makes me so proud....I can only imagine how proud you are too!

So glad you are OK.  Abbie (some of you may remember) is safe in New Hampshire.  I have a friend in NJ that is still without power.  Ever here in East TN Sandy had an effect.  Today, rangers had to rescue a hiker in the Great Smoky Moutains at the TN/NC border that was stranded in 5 feet of snow.  WOW!  Freaky, RIGHT?

Take care and I wish you ALL the best in the years ahead....remember....I have few years on you (34)!!!  It gets better with TIME :)
