45 days...Balance $3,342.00

I know I have not arrived at this point in the traditional way of budgeting.  It's been a long, sometimes very hard budget to stick too.  I'm looking so forward to once again being the master of my own money.  To prove to my husband, myself and family that I can be financially responsible.

My New Year's resolution was to become more financially fit.  So far I have started a FSA account with my husband's employer so the money that we use for prescriptions and doctor copay's is not taxed.  Victory number two was getting to cable company to once again to lower my cable bill by $30 a month for one full year.  I also started a rainy day/travel/whatever fund that you at a dollar a week and increase the  payments by $1 each week for 52 weeks. My goal next Thursday is to fund the first 1/2 of our emergency savings fund and open a separate account for this at the credit union.  Then when the bonus arrives later I have two months of living expense in reserve with a goal of having a third month put back by the end of 2014.

Today I plan on approaching our cell phone company.  The billing has been messed up for months and I'm not happy with the mere 5,000 points they gave for all the inconvenice.

These may all seems like small steps, but for me they are a big deal. I want to be the master of my money once again.  Not the other way around.

A  month and a half Norma. I'd say you are pretty much free and clear and could do this with out your job now. You have some savings and are doing so great you two! I know you are not ready to quit but what a feeling?! Must be so liberating!! Proud of you on every level I can think  of!

Hey, down to 43 days today - it is just seeming to go a lot faster now. All those little steps are really good. I am doing an event with women on the 22nd and those are great ideas to throw out there, can I use some of them? Marie

Norma, I want you to know how much I admire how you have persevered through this very difficult time. So many people are waiting for the BIG day for you, and I am one of them. Good for you for continuing to look for ways to reach financial freedom.

Congrats!! Each little step counts Norma, you know that better than any one! I am also doing the 52 week $1/week challenge. I am doing it double right now, since we have 2 incomes, hoping I can keep it up all year, but I know the fall may be tough. I am hoping that I can use it for our 10 year anniversary in the spring of 2015 (or a nice family trip to disney!!). You will like having an FSA, its so much more convenient to pay for things like that knowing its already saved up and no taxes on it! I love ours!!
