iv_aingeal, I'm really sorry about the hard time you are going through (I've read both of your posts).

So glad to hear you got your bus pass back - especially since it's at the beginning of the month. And see - the savings (sinking fund) is there for your teeth. It's not an emergency, it may be unexpected but you can handle it.

Yep, things are looking brighter. My bus pass was returned and I do have a sinking fund for my teeth (I just hope this year doesn't cost me more than $1,200 after insurance!!).

LOL, I thought the country song comment was pretty funny too!!

But in all seriousness I'm glad you had enough sense to open the other bottle of wine, that is what is important here. I once had a two set picture frame that i got on clearance. Once I got it out of the box there was tape on the edges and I had to remove the tape. It peeled off some of the paint on one of the frames. So I got out some steel wool and brushed off some of the paint on the other frame to match. Love it, looks better than before, all rustic and original. Go drapes, go!

And look at it this way, at least you know your friend is full of s^%$! You could have gotten a call from a friend who you know is completely sucessful and is doing those things and can afford them and is going on vacation. That happens to me when my sister calls sometimes and I give myself a little pitty party then move on and try to be happy for her. Whatever, life goes on!

You are destined to have a great dental year or two and buy a car with cash my dear! All you need is time, copy and paste to change the dental category to car and you are set!

And last but not least, Murphy, there are plenty of other places to visit! Leave DGS alone!

Hmmm, what if I said I don't even have curtains in most rooms? See if you care about these things it matters, so not caring could be a good solution to the issues. It is all about how we let things affect us.

As far as your friend with the new house - hmmm yeah, she learned how to manage money, on the backs of others!! I don't think that is in your MO, Kate. Your friend probably is looking for others to fund her retirement, too. Then again she could have gotten a great deal on a house, and it will rise in value? Who knows in the long run.

Right now I hate our house, can't understand why DH ever bought it, but we are trapped in it. We could walk away and buy something else and let if foreclose like so many others around us have done, but that is not us.

Sorry about the Merlot bottle, the glasses and the bus pass. It is hard when the days are gray, and everyone seems to be having more fun while we here up north hardly get any vitamin D.

How about a plan for a vacation? Something to take your mind off the curtains?

Yes, at least I have a job and I am grateful! It's funny that's the line my bosses keep saying every time they have bad news. "Everyone's workload is increasing but HEY! At least you have a job!" or "We need everyone to work late without pay, but HEY! At lease you have a job!" It sure doesn't create a very good atmosphere!

Everyone is holding their breaths over here as well. A departmental committee was set up to decide where the cutbacks will occur. We've already lost so many people (due to retirements, they currently don't replace positions) and we're badly understaffed. I can't imagine how we would survive any further loss of staff.

Weird how they are cutting back jobs, yet there's plenty of money to hire consultants at $1,000 per day.

Kate, it sounds like you just had all the sucky things happen in one day. I hate when that happens! Feels like the world is against you ... but at least, maybe, it's
