I know, I know. We all have Halloween to get through first. And, some of us are hunkering down for Hurricane Sandy. Crazy looking storm, isn't it?

It's almost November! How did your October go? Share how you did and what you're planning!

Oh, gosh, I'm sorry. I can just hear your frustration. I wonder if your DH feels pretty powerless being deployed and the shopping gets him through. What might you work on? A savings goal, maybe? Do you have any debt in your own name that you have full control over? This seems to be one of those things we ladies struggle with a lot. IMO, men often see success as what they can buy/what they own. Is that just me? Best, Didi

Sandy hasn't been too bad to us here in SE VA.  There's some flooding at the coastal areas and a lot of wind, but no power outtages or really big problems like that.  It was more the size of the storm I think than the strength of it that generated chatter.

 October Goals
1) Pay off at least two cards.  Two of our cards are well within reach of payoff.  If I'm particularly careful with bills and spending, we can manage this with no problem.
~ I don't even want to talk about this one I am so angry and disappointed over it (please pardon my all caps but I think it wil convey my thoughts).  DH AND I TALKED ABOUT THIS AND AGREED TO IT.  We paid off the first card with the paycheck on the first, a week later he tells me that he ordered a bunch of NFL jerseys for people he works with and he put it on the card.  I almost blew up, he told me they gave him the money and that he would be ok on spending for awhile and we could pay it off.  We pay the second one off on the 15th.  I go to check this morning and he's put a bunch of money back on it with spending in-port.  That's on top of spending all of his spending money (about $600).  So we got absolutely nowhere.

2) Get ready for Halloween.  DD wants to be a mermaid so I'm going to grab her costume and I also need to get some cheap Halloween candy together as well as decorate the outside of the apartment.
~ We're going to a friend's house for trick or treating and DD wants to be a princess (which she already has several dresses).  I've bought some leaf chains and pumpkins for the house :) :smileyhappy:

3) Start purchasing DH's Christmas presents to have ready to send next month.
~ Haven't begun this yet.  I have the list and I'm putting together the expenses now.

November Goals
1) Continue keeping a reign on grocery spending.  It's improving, but still needs some work so I'll concentrate on getting sales and circular skills :)

2) Pull money for Christmas and start buying presents/decorations.  I'm not buying a huge amount but enough to give us something to get excited about.

I'm not even trying anything debt related.  Everytime we do, DH sees it as having free spending money and that has got to stop.  At this point any and all money decisions will be made by him and I'll just enter the numbers.  If spending is that important to him then he needs to learn on his own that it shouldn't be.  Maybe when he gets home from deployment and we still have a mountain of debt and no savings he'll figure it out, it kills me to do it but this can't be one sided.  He says he wants to but I can tell he's not ready for it.  So actually:

3) Letting go of debt repayment and focus so maybe DH can learn a thing or two.

I tried to bump the October goals thread, but it didn't work for some reason :).

Ok. Here were my October goals:

  • Pay $750 towards property taxes. Did not do. Not a penny.
  • Pay a medical bill I just received (about $250). Paid this and I don't have any other medical bills right now.
  • Pay all other bills on time. Done.
  • $300 into savings. YES!!
  • No additional debt. ARGH...Well, I'd probably be OK here; but, with the storm I wanted to be sure to be stocked up so I did put about $70 on a CC. I didn't know if I'd make it to payday (which is tomorrow). There is a very good chance they're going to pay us today because of the storm coming. Otherwise, it's direct deposit and that could be problematic.

Looking ahead to November:
Pay 2100 towards property taxes
Get debt total down to $17,000 (this will be tough, but I'm expecting a sizable reimbursement check)
Pay off my two smallest cards (one of which I just put the $70 on...)

Hope folks can post soon. It's kind of quiet on here lately!
