Our attorney was there to represent us in the trustee's office. There were two cases in front of us. The first person was ridiculed for not following the trustees rules. This made me us edgy. The second case was a couple with children and the husband had a sub-standard job like my husband. They ask for a lesser budget to help cloth & take care of their childred. I noticed when we arrived that two people sat over to the side of the court and wondered who they were. I noticed they would had documents and sort of figured they were there to represent somebody. We went before the trustee's table and low and behold these two people represented the credit union....Yikes! Why us? They questioned us about our trucking company and items we had previously owned. They questioned a couple of other things and made me nervous. Our budget was set and the proceedings were over...Thank GOD!! The payments were to come out of my paycheck directly from my employer. Mainly because I had a steady salary and hubby was on a commission only job and never knew what he would make. There were weeks that we were fine and then there were weeks we starved to death. This meeting was on February 24, 2009.
Fast forward seven months later until August 2009. Hubby landed a terrific job as a manufactor's representative. The job was a blessing. We were able to pay the bills and live a decent life. The court did raise our payments...a LOT! My check was not enough to cover the payment, so each week I had to write a personal check and forfeit every dime I made also. The $518 a week payments have been big, but doable.
During the last four years I have learned how to budget for big expenses and other large bills the court never really takes into consideration. The first year my husband drew a bonus check, we went back before the trustee and ask to keep it. Showing proof that we had a large number of medical bills and dental expense not covered by insurance. I had a pacemaker put back in in 2011 after discovering I was once again having heart failure and hubby had some very old caps that had to be replaced with a partial. Last year he earned a very large bonus and we forfieted the entire amount to the trustee. It hurt. It hurt really bad to give up nearly $7,000.00.
Today I am proud to report our balance is $234. The end is near :)
