I caught the last ten minutes of Suze Orman last night, Saturday night.

Oh boy, I could really use this challenge. My life has been in such upheaval lately that I've spent -- brace yourself -- $427 on restaurant food so far this month!! I've been watching the numbers climb but have just been unable to pull myself together to get organized in the kitchen. The money has been coming out of my emergency fund. I'm so embarrassed.

Anyway, on Sunday I went grocery shopping, spent $160, restocked the kitchen and spent the day chopping and prepping for the week.

I guess I'll take on this challenge for November. No eating out!! Actually, it would be nice if I could lose some weight.

Keep us posted on your progress gal_audrey. I'll be doing it with you!

Maybe it's because I grew up with a mom who was both a gourmet cook and also EXTREMELY frugal as a result of growing up during the Depression, but I never understood why people would eat out if they didn't get better food out than they would have at home.

Pardon me for jumping in! :-) I think this sounds like a great challenge. I'd love to try it too! I think it's a great thing to try this time of year especially. Every time you're tempted to go out or stop at Starbucks, you could just stick that $5 or $25 into holiday savings instead!

Mahopac and Serenity -

Totally agree with you both that this would not usually be much of a challenge at our house.

Thank goodness two of my favorite restaurants are a little bit on the higher end for our budget, and long waits, which helps keep us away!

DAY TWO:

I weighed myself, I am not 151 but 152.5 lbs as of this morning. It was a bad weekend of over eating.

I hate grocery shopping and this year I have discovered Safeway On-line / delivery.

The restaurants around me aren't so good. Temptation to eat out isn't so high. But I do want a spot in the cafe just to work in a different location. Guess I'll have to be one of those weirdos who don't buy anything.

Now, here's one to top Suze Orman. Try cooking simply. That will reduce the cost of food. I'll avoid making fancy dishes from now on. Not so hard, as I am single and cook only for myself.
