I've been travelling a TON for work lately and haven't had much chance to check in. It has added a HUGE amount of stress to an already stressed out chick (read: me!) and

Thanks Karen!
I'm having a contractor come and take a look (I just sent him an email today). He is a friend of the family and very well respected so I trust him to be honest and forthcoming about what he thinks. I have $10K in my head, and given that the basement is already finished (a lot of the hard work has been done) I'm hoping this is reasonable. If it's not then I have to do some serious thinking to determine whether or not its worth it in the long run. Mom has agreed to $650 a month and will pay the first year up front ( $7800.00) so I need to come up with the other $2200. I'm not making any decisions until I speak with the contractor and get a good estimate!

Nice to hear from you! Great plan with your government check! I'm honestly tired of taking our tax returns to pay off debt. Though we just have our bike, so we should be ok this year! Woot Woot.

We self medicate by eating certain foods that dulls us/ calms us down, such as bread, as I have heard.

Self medicate is almost exactly what I'm doing because temporarily it makes me feel better. I know in the long term its really bad for me, but I just can't seem to stop. I'm going to try and get mom to help me make some homemade stuff tonight that I love that is okay for me (ground chicken meatloaf, shepherds pie with ground chicken etc) and hopefully that will help fight off the cravings for crap.

I also need to get my energy levels up. I've been sleeping almost 10 hours a night and am still tired (this time of year does it to me for sure!!!)
